Pool Manager Position

The Swimming Swan is proud to partner with the City of Gilroy for the Summer of 2022. We’re looking for someone with aquatics management experience to help us run the Christopher High School Aquatics Center.

This is a full-time, seasonal position (Memorial – Labor Day). Employment is contingent upon successful passing of a background/reference check and drug screening.

Responsibilities

Oversee the day-to-day operation, maintenance, and administration of the pool and surrounding facility, such as:

  • Chemical testing

  • Daily facility duties

  • Report directly to the County Manager

Oversee aspects of the training, testing, and certification of the facility staff, including:

  • Conducting pre-service orientation and ongoing in-service training

  • Ensuring proper lifeguard rotations and procedures are conducted on a daily basis

  • Ensure staff meets standards of appropriate dress, behavior, and professionalism required to maintain patron safety

Administer various aquatic programs, such as:

  • Private party rentals

  • Swimming lesson registration

  • Community daily and summer passes

  • Aqua fitness course registrations

  • Monthly community outreach events, including potential staff fundraising opportunities

Ensures that all appropriate water, environmental, health, and safety standards are maintained; ensures pools are compliant with all local, state, and national requirements and current on all necessary certifications required for operation.

  • Anticipated schedule: Tuesday – Saturday, 8:30 am – 5 pm

Qualifications

  • Must be a minimum of 21 years of  age with a High School Diploma  or equivalent

  • Current Certified Pool Operator (CPO) or Certified Aquatics Facility Operator (AFO) OR certification within 3 months of hire.

  • Current Red Cross Lifeguarding/CPR/First Aid/AED Certification

  • Current Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor (LGI) Certification preferred

  • Current Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Trainer (WSIT) Certification preferred

  • 3+ year(s) head lifeguard experience required.

  • 5+ year(s) swim teaching experience teaching a wide range of swim levels and water safety skills

  • Ability to pass pre-employment verbal, swim, and in-water skills test

  • Strong customer service background required

  • Bachelors degree in Recreation or related field preferred

  • Must be self-motivated and able to effectively prioritize and complete assigned tasks
