Lifeguard certification about to expire? Get Re-certified!

For the first 30 days after your certification expires, you have the option of taking a shorter review course (13 hours). 

If your certification has been expired for longer than 30 days, you’ll have to take the full training course. After passing, your renewed certification is valid for another 2 years.

How to pass the Lifeguard Review? 

• Blended learning-Review all video clips and online material
• Demonstrate competency in all required skills and activities.
• Demonstrate competency in all required final rescue skill scenarios.
• Complete final exam with 80% or higher

Are there any prerequisites?

Pass the following swim test on the day of class:

• 1. 300-yard swim using front crawl or breaststroke
• 2. 2-minute tread using legs only
• 3. Retrieve a 10-lb dive weight from 7 ft deep, surface and swim 20 yds with the weight, using legs only and exit the pool without using a ladder within 100 seconds

• In-Class Session ONLY. This is not a blended learning course.
• Demonstrate competency in all required skills and activities.
• Demonstrate competency in all required final rescue skill scenarios.
• Complete final exam with 80% or higher

Are there any prerequisites?

• Minimum of 15 years of age.
• American Red Cross CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer or AHA CPR certificate issued within the last 12 months.

FAQ’s 

1. What happens if I fail the exam? You have the option of taking another version of the exam. If you fail the exam twice, you will need to retake the full FAPSP course.
2. Upon successful completion of the review course option, what certification do I receive?  Participants receive an American Red Cross certification for First Aid for Public Safety Personnel (Title 22) and CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers, valid for 2 years.

Water Safety Instructor Certification about to expire? Get Re-certified!

Up to  years post expiration date of your WSI, you have the option of taking a shorter review course (8 hours minimum). 

You MUST have a current credential from one of the following organizations listed below. After passing, your renewed certification is valid for another 2 years.

How to pass the WSI Review? 

• Blended Learning and In-Class Session.
• Demonstrate competency in all required skills and activities.
• Demonstrate competency in all required final rescue skill scenarios.
• Complete final exam with 80% or higher

Are there any prerequisites?

• Minimum of 16 years of age.
• Complete the online Orientation to the Swimming & Water Safety Program
• Successfully complete the pre-course session on the first day of class:
  • Swim the following strokes consistent with Level 4.
    • Front Crawl, Back Crawl, Breaststroke, Elementary Backstroke, Sidestroke – 25 yards
    • Butterfly – 15 yards
    • Back float for 1 minute (floating or sculling)
    • Tread water for 1 minute
• Possess one of the following credentials:

• • Proof of former American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor certification (expired by no more than 2 years)
  • Evidence of current external credentials that show the participant has successfully completed a formalized swimming instructor course with one of the following organizations:
  • YMCA of the USA
  • National Safety Council/Ellis & Associates, Inc.
  • American Safety & Health Institute (ASHI)—Starfish Aquatics Institute
  • American Swim Coaches Association—SwimAmerica
  • American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (AAHPERD)
  • Others as determined by the local Preparedness and Health and Safety Services -Aquatics or Service Delivery representative
