Water Safety Instructor Certification

2 Day Class

 

The primary purpose of the American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor (WSI) Certification is to train Instructor candidates to teach all of the courses presented in the Swimming and Water Safety Program to all age groups; from Parent and Child Aquatics, Preschool Aquatics, Learn-to-Swim Levels 1 to 6 and Adult Swim. This certification is the gold standard for all Swimming Instructors. This is a Blended Learning Course with online coursework, classroom and in-water skills tests. The 8 hour online portion of this course must be completed prior to the first day of class.

Swimming Instructor

Prerequisites

  • Participants must be at least 16 years of age on the first day of class
  • Complete Red Cross 8 Hours Online Course work, must bring verification of completion to first day of class
  • Proficiently Swim 25 yards of each of the 6 strokes (Freestyle, Backstroke, Breaststroke, Butterfly, Elementary Backstroke and Sidestroke)
  • Tread water for 1 minute only using legs. Face must stay above the surface of the water
  • Back float for 1 minute in deep water
